Dominic Pino is Thomas L. Rhodes Journalism Fellow at the National Review Institute and the host of AIER’s Econception Podcast.

The only examples where international free trade was pursued successfully were tiny islands wholly dependent on trade (but still often imposing some trade duties) and exceptionally powerful countries (like usa and 19th century britain) which used free trade not to benefit their own economies but to win geopolitical alliances and gain geostrategic advantages (mostly military and diplomacy and they only did it when they were perceived as a far far superior economy to the ones they opened their markets to). even the small islands did it so they would be too important to invade.

When you mentioned the Francis Scott key bridge and how much it would cost and how much time it would take to replace it That's almost exactly what the research has shown over the last 50 years when you look at productivity rates per worker hour in construction. It's one of the only industries that's gotten much much less productive per worker hour even with better technology, for example the average construction worker hour is about 50 to 60% less productive than it was in 1972 that's absolutely insane. It's similar for other occupations like truck driving the average truck driver in one year does about 30% less than they did in 1972. In fact there are only a few industries that are much more productive than 1972 those are information technology commercial mining especially hydrofracking commercial agriculture in forestry and finance. This is why it's frustrating when you see people that look at the average worker productivity in the United States and how it has gone up since 1972 and how on average wages have not kept pace but what they don't show you is that if you look at industry by industry all of those gains only came from the industries I listed above in their wages have more than kept up with inflation because they become more productive but when you average it all together it looks like people have not got paid more but it's actually masking the productivity problem in all the other industries that are not becoming more productive and it all started in about 1972 when all these regulations came to pass as well as the oil embargo.

Marx wasn't a Socialist, he was a Communist. He literally co-wrote The Communist Manifesto with Engels and is widely regarded as the Father of Communism. Socialism is informed by Marxist ideals, sure, but Marx was most certainly not a Socialist. Idk who these guys who created this video are, but they must've done little to no research on Marx and his political beliefs lmao

We do not need socialism for healthcare or education. Both of those are awful under the monopolized control of the state and better and cheaper through an open market.

Do you think it's just coincidence that over 50% of new medicines and medical patents come from the U.S. because of a free market system? I agree that our healthcare system needs an overhaul, but socialist medicine would raise prices, not lower them. The problem is employer-based healthcare limits choice and forces people into terrible plans that are sold en masse to corporations. Ban employer based healthcare, and have companies give that money back to employees to make their own choices, and allow every insurance carrier to compete across every state and county. This would force insurance companies to compete for individual policy holders (just like Auto, Home, Car, and literally every other insurance) which fosters competition, increases choice, and lowers prices. The bureaucracy of insurance is the other problem, there is no explanation of the costs of medicines and procedures until usually after the procedure is done. Patients have no option to shop around and compare prices, and many doctor's offices refuse to take Medicare now because they don't even get reimbursed at cost for their services. And you want that for everyone? Education is even worse with public schools lagging behind literally every other educational option (homeschool, private, and charter) because in those school options they are forced to reach certain milestones and standards while also competing for students and tuition. Public schools waste ridiculous amounts of funding which is siphoned off by teacher's unions who make sure to keep teachers underpaid so they can continually demand more money. Best example is the city of Baltimore who pays over $21k per student in their school system and has literally the worst test scores in the nation, with a Valedictorian of one high school with a 1.9 GPA. Your takes are just bland talking points that have been proven wrong by empirical data for decades now.
